A Wine That Educates

Here is a tax-deductible way for you to enjoy a special Napa Valley wine - the Brother Timothy Signature Series 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon - a complex and harmonious blend of reserve-quality wine in a unique collector's-item bottling (see order form for details). This Signature Series Cabernet Sauvignon, created in honor of Brother Timothy, longtime cellar master for The Christian Brothers, is truly "a message in a bottle" - a message of hope for youth at risk. Its sales help the Lasallian Education Fund provide educational opportunities for disadvantaged young people. This wine is a labor of love, donated by generous winemakers to help our youth achieve a better future through education.

Currently, some 10,000 students in four western states are benefiting from education in the tradition of the De La Salle Christian Brothers. By maintaining their established schools, and by continuing to found new schools in impoverished neighborhoods, the Christian Brothers and their colleagues are helping our youth to achieve a better future.

Such innovative high schools as De La Salle North Catholic in Portland, opened in 2001, and San Miguel Catholic High School in Tucson, opening in 2004, help to make college-preparatory education affordable for the poor with a "corporate internship" program that gives students paying jobs in corporate offices in direct connection with their academic studies. This business experience and their classroom studies reinforce each other in invaluable ways.

Such efforts are part of the Christian Brothers' three-hundred-year tradition of offering education that is both loving and practical. The Brother Timothy Signature Series Cabernet is a part of this labor of love. Five generous supporters of this educational mission - Newton Vineyard, Beringer Blass Wine Estates, Kathryn Hall Vineyards, Robert Mondavi Winery, and Lancaster Estate - have donated barrels of vintage 2001 wine from their excellent but distinctive vineyards, to be fashioned into a blend that is rich and full of varietal character while balanced and satisfying in every way.

"We are very excited about this Cabernet," says Dr. Su Hua Newton. "The wine has deep, rich color with aromas of black cherry, currant, a hint of vanilla and enticing suggestions of spices. A velvety texture, soft tannins and a lovely structure are complemented by long, lingering flavors."

The Lasallian Education Fund will begin taking reservations for this limited edition wine on February 25, 2004. Orders will be shipped second half of April 2004.

You can join these winemakers and the Christian Brothers in sending "a message in a bottle" - a message of hope for youth at risk.
