Some of the circumstances of John Baptist de La Salle's time
are disturbingly similar to ours today. The poor are the majority
of the population, oppressed by limited resources, undeveloped
abilities, and constant insecurity, with few opportunities for
personal fulfillment and social advancement. Education for the
poor is often scarce, incomplete, and of low quality, even in
societies where educational opportunities are abundant for those
with money.
De La Salle's vision for equal access to education continues to shape the Lasallian Education Fund. For over 300 years, students around the world have been educated in Lasallian schools organized with caring, dependable teachers who balance the basics with social skills such as personal responsibility, leadership and cooperation, as well as spirituality, faith and service to others.
