BROTHER TIMOTHY SIGNATURE SERIES 2001 NAPA
VALLEY CABERNET LAUNCHED BY THE LASALLIAN EDUCATION FUND
St.
Helena, CA, February 25, 2004 - The launch of the Brother
Timothy Signature Series 2001 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
was announced today by the Lasallian Education Fund. Created
in honor of Brother Timothy, longtime cellar master for The
Christian Brothers, the limited edition wine is truly a "message
in a bottle" - a message of hope for youth at risk, as proceeds
will benefit the Education Fund. Only 120 cases of this
collector's item were produced. "This wine is a labor
of love, donated by generous winemakers to help our youth
achieve a better future through education," said Brother Timothy
who recently celebrated his 93rd birthday. Throughout his
75 years as a De La Salle Christian Brother, his life as a
master vintner and industry pioneer has been devoted to supporting
the Lasallian schools and programs.
This one-of-a-kind reserve-quality wine made
by Dr. Su Hua Newton was handcrafted from barrels of vintage
2001 Cabernet Sauvignon donated by her own Newton Vineyard
as well as Beringer Blass Wine Estates, Kathryn Hall Vineyards,
Robert Mondavi Winery and Lancaster Estate. "We are very excited
about this Cabernet," said Dr. Newton. "The wine has deep,
rich color with aromas of black cherry, currant, a hint of
vanilla and an enticing suggestion of spices. The velvety
texture of the wine is enhanced by its lovely structure. The
finish is long and lingering." A commemorative label designed
exclusively for this bottling by Broom & Broom of San Francisco,
and printed by Vintage 99 of Livermore, Calif., features the
signature and profile of Brother Timothy.
The Lasallian Education Fund, dedicated to giving
educational opportunities to disadvantaged young people, is
presently accepting offers to purchase the first release of
the Brother Timothy Signature Series at $100 per bottle (of
which $50 is tax deductible). Tax-deductible orders can be
placed via the web site at www.lasallianeducation.org
or by phone at 415.835.5969. All proceeds will benefit this
Fund to help transform lives through education. The wine is
offered to consumers in the following states: Arkansas, California,
Colorado, Washington, D.C., Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota,
Missouri, Nevada, North Dakota, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon,
Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Richard Maher of Maher & Associates is co-chair
with Dr. Newton on the project to create the Brother Timothy
Signature Series wines. "We are excited by this high-profile
wine and the people it honors and serves," said Maher. Bernard
Portet of Clos du Val will also provide support as well as
being the upcoming chair of the Brother Timothy Legacy Celebration
on May 8, 2004 at the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone
in St. Helena, Calif. Last year's Jubilee celebrating the
career of Brother Timothy was attended by 250 people, including
Robert Mondavi, Chairman Emeritus of Robert Mondavi Winery;
Bob Trinchero, Chairman and CEO of Trinchero Family Estates;
and Ernest Gallo, Chairman of E&J Gallo Winery. One hundred
percent of the $180,000 net proceeds from the event benefited
the Lasallian Education Fund to provide more scholarships
