WINE & FOOD GALA BENEFITS YOUTH AT RISK
The Brother Timothy Legacy Celebration will
be held Saturday, May 8, at the Culinary Institute of America
at Greystone. A 6 p.m. wine reception will be followed by
a 7 p.m. dinner with Brother Timothy, one of the great figures
in California wine and a De La Salle Christian Brother since
1928. Event proceeds will provide more educational opportunities
for local and regional youth at risk. Seats are extremely
limited at $250 per person.
Beginning this year, the Legacy Celebration
will honor local philanthropists and humanitarians for their
contributions to the Napa Valley. 2004 honorees are the Napa
Valley Vintners, Joseph Phelps and Marj Dixon. Last year's
event celebrating the career of Brother Timothy was attended
by 250 people and 100 percent of the $180,000 net proceeds
allowed the Lasallian Education Fund to provide more scholarships
to youth at risk.
Created by Bay Area visionaries, the Lasallian
Education Fund is a new initiative to further meet the educational
needs of poor and at-risk young people. Funds raised from
the Legacy Celebration will allow more children to benefit.
"We are helping our youth achieve a better future through
education," said Brother Timothy who is 93 years old. The
Christian Brothers and their teaching and administrative partners
in Lasallian education serve more than 800,000 students worldwide.
"We are proud to continue the legacy of Brother
Timothy," said Bernard Portet, founder of Clos du Val Winery
and chairperson for the event. Juelle Fisher, owner of Fisher
Vineyards and Beth Novak Milliken, president of Spottswoode
Vineyard & Winery are serving as co-chairs. The dinner committee
members include John and Josephine DeLuca, Clem Firko, Ernest
Gallo, Richard and Marcia Maher, Earl and Kristin Martin,
Robert and Margrit Mondavi, Dr. Su Hua Newton, John and Barbara
Shafer, Bob and Evalyn Trinchero.
The dinner is black-tie optional. Valet parking
is provided. Various levels of sponsorship and table reservations
are available. For reservations and additional information,
